The Canary Islands are situated just off the northwest coast of mainland Africa and have been a popular holiday destination for many years. Legally recognized as a nationality of Spain, the seven Canary Islands include Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, La Gomera, El Hierro, La Palma, and Fuerteventura. There are also a handful of smaller islands dotted around including Isla de Lobos just off Lanzarote and La Graciosa and Alegranza.
The island of Tenerife attracts around 12 million visitors per year and boasts the third tallest volcano in the world named ‘Mount Teide’. The islands also offer superb all year climates with the summers reaching the high 30’s and the winters well into the twenties. Fuerteventura, known as the windy isle offers some of the best beaches in Europe and with over 150 to choose from you will definitely be spoilt for choice!
Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are the four main holiday islands offering plenty to do for the holidaymaker. The islands of El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera have only recently started to offer amenities for the tourist but are still well worth a visit.
All seven of the islands are also ideal for astronomical observations due to their location close to the equator yet away from any tropical storms and two observation laboratories can be found on both Tenerife and La Palma.
Getting to the Canary islands is now relatively easy with flights from most UK and other European airports. Ferry’s linking the islands are cheap and reliable and allow holiday makers the opportunity to visit other tourist attractions whilst based on a particular island.
With tourism to the islands increasing on a yearly basis and fantastic all year round weather, it is no wonder more people are looking at the canary islands as their next holiday destination.

Fuerteventura's Caleta de Fuste, in the Canary Islands, is located close to the airport and is a fairly new town and holiday destination. Caleta de Fuste boasts many facilities to keep you and the kids occupied and most of these are featured within these pages.
Caleta has been around for about 10-15 years, before that it was a coastal, er...coast. Not much happening at all, but now it is a thriving community with child-safe beaches, and their various water and sand based activities, as well as bars, restaurants, tours, cruises, coastal walks plus much much more.
